Depart from Fes early in the morning for your journey to Merzouga, located on the edge of the Sahara Desert. As you travel southward, enjoy the scenic landscapes of the Middle Atlas Mountains, passing through towns like Ifrane, often called “Little Switzerland,” and Azrou, known for its cedar forests and Barbary apes.

Continue your journey through the town of Midelt, known for its apples and minerals, and enjoy a scenic lunch here. The road leads further south as you approach Erfoud and Rissani, where you will stop to explore the vibrant markets and the ancient ruins of Tafilalet.

Arrive in Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert. In the late afternoon, embark on a camel trek through the Erg Chebbi dunes to watch the stunning desert sunset. You will spend the night in a luxury desert camp, enjoying traditional Berber music, delicious food, and the serenity of the desert under a starry sky.

    Day 2: Merzouga to Zagora

Wake up early to witness the magical desert sunrise over the dunes before enjoying a traditional Moroccan breakfast. Afterward, you’ll leave Merzouga and head towards Zagora, passing through the town of Rissani again and stopping for any additional exploration on the way.

On your journey to Zagora, you’ll drive through desert towns and small villages, offering a real taste of life on the edge of the Sahara. Stop to admire the palm groves and other natural highlights along the way.

Arrive in Zagora by the evening. This town, located in the Draa Valley, is a gateway to the desert and offers a peaceful, authentic Saharan atmosphere. You’ll check into your accommodation, which may be a luxury desert camp or a comfortable hotel, and relax for the evening. Overnight in Zagora.

Day 3: Explore Zagora and Surroundings

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before setting out to explore the Draa Valley. The valley is famous for its vast palm groves and numerous kasbahs (fortified villages), many of which have been well-preserved. A visit to the Tamnougalt Kasbah is a must, as it is one of the most iconic in the region, offering stunning views of the valley and its surroundings.

Spend the afternoon wandering through the oasis-like surroundings of Zagora, with the palm groves and tranquil desert atmosphere providing a perfect opportunity for relaxation or a scenic walk. Alternatively, you can visit Tamegroute, a small village known for its historic green pottery and the Zaouia Naciria, an ancient Islamic school and library.

This stunning site has appeared in many films, such as Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Wander through its narrow alleys and admire the traditional mud-brick architecture.

Arrive in Ouarzazate, a town famous for its role in the film industry, often dubbed “Hollywood of Morocco.” Check into your accommodation and, if time allows, visit the Taourirt Kasbah or the Atlas Film Studios.
